Why tritium suits an automatic
Most watches use luminous paint that has to be charged by light and fades within hours. Luminox uses tiny gas-filled tritium tubes that glow on their own, constantly, for up to 25 years. On an automatic that matters. If the watch has sat in a drawer and stopped, you can still read the hands the moment you pick it up in the dark.
Choosing your Luminox automatic
Every model in the range is Swiss made, water resistant to 200 metres, and fitted with a sapphire crystal, a screw-down crown and a see-through caseback. The differences come down to case, size and style.
Pacific Diver Automatic (XS.3101, XS.3104, XS.3101.H). A 42mm stainless steel dive watch with a ceramic bezel insert and a textured dial. Choose a black or blue wave-pattern dial, on rubber or a steel bracelet. There is also the Heritage Collection Midnight Mariner, whose white dial adds a full Super-LumiNova® coating to its tritium tubes. It's the most versatile pick, at home on a dive boat or with a suit.
Automatic Sport Timer (XS.0921.M, XS.0924, XS.0937). A 42mm stainless steel watch on a steel bracelet, with a scratch-resistant ceramic bezel ring in black, blue or green. Choose it if you want a sporty steel watch you'll wear every day.
Master Carbon SEAL Automatic (XS.3877, XS.3875, XS.3863, XS.3862). The largest in the range, with a 45mm CARBONOX™+ case that is light, hypoallergenic, and resistant to scratches and shocks. It has a day and date display and comes on a rubber strap. Built for military divers, it suits anyone who wants maximum wrist presence and toughness.
Keeping your automatic running
Wear it daily and it will keep itself wound. Take it off for more than a day or so and it will gradually wind down and stop. Just wind it by the crown or give it a few gentle shakes, then reset the time. Every Luminox automatic comes with a free watch winder, which keeps it running between wears.
