Luminox have partnered with #TIDE Ocean Material to produce our exceptional range of ocean plastic recycled watches.
About #TIDE Ocean Material
#TIDE ocean materials are made from 100% ocean-bound plastic, developed in partnership with Swiss scientists. On five islands in the Andaman Sea off the coast of Thailand, local fishermen are being trained and paid to gather and sort plastic waste.
The #TIDE material starts out as this collected plastic waste, which is then broken down by a sophisticated sustainable process to its base particles. These are treated, cleaned, and then shredded so that they can be injected, just like the original plastic it once was. In this way, Luminox reuses this material, reduces the impact on the planet, and helps to clean up the ocean, while also helping these indigenous people learn a new skill and make a regular income.
Sustainability has been on Luminox’s radar for a while, and its parent company, Mondaine Watch Ltd., is one of the world’s first carbon-neutral watch companies. Since 2020, all Mondaine brands, including Luminox, operate with net-zero carbon emissions. The Mondaine Group uses solar power and eco-friendly materials in its production processes and is renowned for its innovation, including in the environmental field. In addition, a proportion of the company's revenue is donated to social and environmental non-profit organizations, such as Fairventures Worldwide.
Partnering with #TIDE is another step in the sustainable direction for Luminox. In the event space, this year Luminox will be participating in several Global Beach Clean Up programs. Partnering with local organizations, Luminox will provide #TIDE material clean-up bags for volunteers to use while cleaning up beaches around the world.
Luminox x #TIDE
The new #TIDE ECO Series watches (0320 and 8900) use 100% recycled material for the case, strap, and bezel. In the 0320, the case and bezel are manufactured with #TIDE material while the strap is made from recycled PET plastic. In the 8900 series, all two timepieces use the #TIDE material.
Both series use a Swiss Made precision quartz movement, and both are, of course, equipped with the Luminox Light Technology, meaning that they are visible in any conditions without having to be charged by an external source. This proven technology uses tritium gas encased in sophisticated tubes, and the tritium gas is itself recycled.
The two collections are housed #TIDE material cases, with the 0320 ECO series water resistant to 100 meters, and the 8900 series water resistant to 200 meters. The 0320 timepieces come in an elegant grey, with a wave-textured pattern on the dial. The strap for this watch is made from 100% recycled PET plastic.
The straps for the 8900 series are also made from the #TIDE material, and the cases are available in grey or blue. The grey case features a blue wave textured dial and matching blue #TIDE strap, while the blue case version has a grey wave textured dial and matching grey #TIDE strap. The dial of all three models features the three R’s icon at 6 o’clock: “Reduce Reuse Recycle”.
With the #TIDE series watches you can feel good about helping Luminox make a difference. People talk about wearing your heart on your sleeve – with the #TIDE material series from Luminox, you can wear your environmental commitment on your wrist.
